Six Thinking Hats.

Edward De Bono in his book "Six Thinking Hats" presents an interesting technique of creative thinking.

In groups, meetings - but often in inner conversation - the reasoning is easily self-censorship by fear of the opinion, by prejudice, by force of habit. We tend that is easy to use only the type of reasoning that De Bono calls "black hat": a critical analysis. As
this analysis is useful, is only one of the tools available, limiting and insufficient if taken alone.
The suggestion, to overcome this limitation, is to play roles, to wear "uniforms" such as hats, they are real or metaphorical.

This trick allows you to appease the concerns of a "fool", protecting the back of the "hat worn" and thereby encouraging action that would not otherwise have a way to emerge. It allows us to focus on different phases, new perspectives, thus enriching the collection of data on the topic in question. Because it facilitates communication within a "game" to ask the other to "change log" avoids the possible resentments in the usual conversation might expose us.

The process uses six different perspectives, represented by De Bono's six hats of different colors.

white hat.
Thought for information. Neutral and objective. exposure of facts and figures, no interpretation, "cool" as the data in a computer. It should be worn in exposure of data on the issue to be resolved. Exposure should be devoid do any review, evaluation or feeling personal data only.
The white color suggests neutrality.

Red Hat.
emotional thoughts. Emotional and subjective. Has the important function of providing space for feelings and emotions - both positive and negative - that in the absence of "remain hidden in the background, exerting a hidden influence that could hamper hopelessly research the solution. " also offers other function study of knee-jerk reaction, free from the superstructure of a subject at a given idea. The emotions / feelings expressed do not need to be motivated, motivate others is the task of hats.
The color red suggests passion.

black hat.
Critical Thinking. Pessimism. wears "devil's advocate" to expose all the flaws, limitations and possible ways in which an idea can fail. But always and only within a logical analysis "does not work because ...".
"I do not like" would be an emotion and as such, positive or negative, concerning the red hat. Any criticism should be well motivated with this hat. The black
evokes negativity.

yellow hat. constructive thinking. Optimism. - It should be worn to express the positive aspects of an idea. So how to explain it on a logical basis for projecting the positive scenarios, animated by a spirit of hope. Help to overcome the impasse in which all the streets seem to have no background. The yellow color reminds
sunlight.

green hat. Creative Thinking. Creativity. Searching for alternatives, lateral thinking, brainstorming . Wear a green hat means to explore, exceed the limit of their preconceptions in mind that, as they may be valid, " a good idea is enemy of better .
The green color evokes the image of the grass, vegetation, and abundant fertile growth

blue hat. organizational thinking. Control and management. should be worn to moderate the meeting, summarize, synthesize, remember the objectives, redarne agenda, direct its operation sequences. Holds the role of choreographer of "ballet" of mind.
the blue color reminiscent of the blue sky above it all.

During each session, each participant is asked to wear these hats. This can be done formally under the guidance of a moderator - and then hold that the permanently blue hat - as well so finormale through phrases like "how about now get all the green hat? For twenty minutes," "let a moment by the black hat, "" expose the facts with the only white hat "," relegates the emotions the red hat ", etc..
